Interview with Glenn Rubenstein of Headboard by Natalie Earl
[Author's Note: Headboard is a very cool alternative band that recorded a cover version of the Zit Remedy's "Everybody Want's Something" Visit their website at and download their songs from http://www.wco.com/~grubenst/headboard/index1.htm Degrassi developed Everybody Wants Something as a "throwaway" song however it became an underground classic and a secondary anthem to the show.]
Glenn: I love Degrassi! I got to know the show when my 8th grade English teacher showed it to us. It was an honour's class and for some reason he was only supposed to show it for his regular 7th grade classes (to teach kids to be civil, etc). He showed it to us when we demanded it. We loved the show. Their band [The Zit Remedy] and the stuff they did early on inspired a lot of our early career (like make tapes, harass radio stations, try to play at your school, etc.). Of course I loved Joey, but I also liked Arthur and Yick. Not only could I relate, but I also look A LOT like Arthur. In fact, it was annoying back then because kids would always make fun of me about it. I don't have a favorite episode per se, but there are many that I loved. I liked all the ones featuring the band, I also liked the School's Out movie, but for more dark and twisted reasons. There isn't any episode I didn't like though. People at shows really get the song [Everybody Wants Something] - in fact, we intro it a lot by mentioning Degrassi. We get a lot of cheers. It's very cool. Crushes? The twins, Caitlin, and probably too many more if I think about it. : )
